Volga State University of Water Transport, being one of the oldest educational institutions (founded in 1930), is a leading transport university in the Volga region and the largest territorial and industrial educational complex with a multi-level training and a modern complex of ship simulators.
The university cooperates with many Russian and foreign shipping companies, which conduct on-board training of students with their subsequent employment.

The university comprises Institute “Maritime Academy”, Institute of Shipbuilding and water transport infrastructure and Institute of Economics, Management and Law
Training of seafarers is carried in accordance with the state educational standards and STСW. After 3 three years of studies Maritime Academy students get an international certificate of a qualified sailor "Able Seaman" and an international certificate of steersman, allowing to work on all types of vessels. Graduates of the University - Deck Officers and Deck Engineers - along with academic diplomas can get work diplomas corresponding to the international maritime conventions (STCW). Their skills and knowledge meet the international standards, which allows them to work on vessels all over the world.

On-board University of the Volga River Basin
The significance of environmental monitoring of the Volga river can hardly be overestimated. Thanks to the grant from the Russian Geographical Society our university received a great opportunity to implement the comprehensive ecological research on the Volga. On-board the VSUWT’s vessel «Petr Adrianov» there is a chemical laboratory that allows to do a variety of analyzes of water samples, an oxygen meter, an instrument for measuring the content of dissolved impurities in water, a meter for salt content and a spectrophotometer and a unique three-component radar complex, which makes it possible to search for films of pollutants on the surface of water. The project is a platform that unites academicians and practical experts, professors and students.
The results of each expedition are summed up and discussed at the conference "Problems of the Volga Basin Ecology".
Student Design Bureau of the Volga State University of Water Transport is a team of enthusiastic students, professors and engineers focusing on the real-life experience and skills in vessels design and construction.
One of the projects guided by Student Design Bureau is National Competition for Engineer Students "Solar Regatta”. Student teams from Russian technical universities with their solar boats participate in annual regattas.
